It's Futile (but I refuse to give up)
As I've already written, I've been struggling with migraines for the last 25 years. During that time, I've looked to various healers, doctors and research to try to determine their cause. I have a friend who also gets migraines. She has it worse than me. She gets around 10 a month. Her neurologist has basically said to her- you get migraines, don't waste your time trying to figure it out. I can understand that logic, but there's something in me that refuses to just live with the headaches.
I know that one migraine a month is related to hormones. My doctor's response to that was to put me on birth control pills and never take a break from them so that I just didn't menstruate. It worked some of the time, but not all the time and being on the pill made me fill ick most of the time, so I stopped. I believe that the act of menstruating brings wonderful clearing to our bodies and isn't something we should play with.
I've seen an osteopath on and off for 15 years. While they haven't been able to do much for my migraines, they do wonderful work with my neck, liver, adenomyosis, and general aches and pains. For me, going to the osteopath is a lot like taking your car in for a tune-up. It's preventative maintenance, and everything just runs a little smoother after you've been.
The naturopath put me on a whole lot of herbal supplements- some made me feel better, others made me feel worse. As I've said before, I'm extremely sensitive to herbs and even the smallest amounts seem to have a big effect on how I feel. After a year, there was no change in my migraines, so, I stopped going. However, my adenomyosis symptoms went away, which was a huge relief.
I took courses in nutrition which told me to eat power foods like nuts, avocado, beans, banana- all of which are migraine triggers. So, when I finally decided to put in the energy needed to eat 'healthy', I ended up with more migraines. You can see why I'm a little frustrated with the whole process.
It seems no one really knows what migraines are or what causes them. They can describe the symptoms, but it seems doctors have thrown up their hands and decided that they are just too random- there is no one cause. As well, because migraines have traditionally affected far more woman than men, historically there's been the idea that it's just the weaker sex; that we're overly emotional; that it's all in our heads.

Yes, frustrating is spelt wrong but I liked the image 😁 |
I'm glad that anecdotal evidence is now coming to light- such as in the book Heal Your Headache and this is partly what I've based my 30 day plan around. The other part of my plan comes from the Medical Medium, Anthony William. I will write more about him and his ideas next post.
